Next up in our Meet the Team spotlight feature: FIRST Tech Challenge team #3846, Maelstrom, of Middleton High School in Tampa.

We are team 3846 Maelstrom and we can turn the tides. This slogan has been with us since 2009, when our team was originally Aionos Tyfonos. We are a FIRST Tech Challenge team from Tampa, Florida, hailing from Middleton High School.

Our team consists of high school students who are ready and willing to build robots and spread STEM throughout our community. We like to engage in various outreach activities, such as hosting summer camps for kids of all ages and doing demonstrations of our robots to local businesses and communities who are eager to learn what robotics is all about. We have evolved into a world class team, always qualifying for states and making it past states to super regionals and worlds and continue to improve year and year again, finding ways to integrate custom parts from all different types of machinery that our school provides us with. We continue to push the boundaries of what’s normal in Florida FIRST Tech Challenge, being one of the first teams to have a fully custom frame and routinely design our own CNC milled and 3D printed parts. Although we didn’t make it to the FIRST Tech Challenge Championship this past season, we are thrilled to have made it so far and to have gained so much knowledge along the way!

Shout-out to TRU Simulation, Tampa Bay Steel Corporation, Analog Device, JPMorgan Chase, Gene Haas, BAMA, Rockwell Collins, Illinois Tool Works Inc, Intelligent Software Systems, Cardio Command, Society of Manufacturing Engineers, Depositary Trust & Clearing Corporation, Ultramatics, Public Charities, and Teradata for your support!
