Next up is FIRST Tech Challenge team #11628, Coding Hope, with Metropolitan Ministries. Here’s their story!
We are team Coding Hope, #11628, from Metropolitan Ministries. Our team name comes from the motto of Metropolitan Ministries—Hope is Here. Our team was started to inspire the students of our community, Metropolitan Ministries, to try out and discover their talents.
Metropolitan Ministries is non-profit transitional housing center based out of Tampa, Florida. This is our third year competing in FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC). Most of our team members have no experience with robotics before joining the team. We like to have fun and learn. We work together to creatively solve problems.
One unique fact about our team is that gain members throughout the season as new families move into Metropolitan Ministries. We have shown off our robot to the families in the community and given the younger kids a chance to drive it as we do different outreach activities at Metropolitan Ministries. Last March, our team had the opportunity to represent FIRST Tech Challenge and Metropolitan Ministries at the Synapse Innovation Summit. At the Summit, we shared our team’s story, learned about different companies, and had the opportunity to network.
We love our sponsors: Metropolitan Ministries, The Broadrick Family Foundation, Rockwell Collins, Tampa Bay Rays, Best Buy, Qualcomm, TD Bank, United Therapeutics Corporation, Terri Willingham, Lightning Community Hero, AT&T.
You can see Coding Hope in action at ROBOTICON Tampa Bay on September 29, at the Yuengling Center. Get your free tickets at Eventbrite!
