Soaring in from Rockledge, meet FIRST Tech Challenge team 11499, the Plaid Pelicans!
The Plaid Pelicans got their start in FIRST Lego League four and half years ago and they are now in their fourth year as a FIRST Tech Challenge Team in the Space Coast League. The team is comprised of 9th and 10th graders from Rockledge and Viera High Schools and they work out of a build space in Rockledge that is provided by their sponsor Mainstream Engineering ![]()
The Pelicans mentor a FIRST Lego League team, have volunteered at FIRST LEGO League events and supported two rookie FIRST Tech Challenge teams at a local middle school in Brevard County. Last year in an effort to promote robotics and STEM, the Plaid Pelicans led more than a dozen FIRST outreach events in Brevard
County and Orlando.
For their efforts they were awarded the Connect Award at the Space Coast League championship and competed at the 2018/19 Florida FTC Championships in Jacksonville, FL. The Plaid Pelicans would like to thank their sponsors: Mainstream Engineering, NASA Exploration Ground Systems (EGS) Program, Rockwell Collins, and Lockheed Martin . You can follow along with the Plaid Pelicans on Facebook and Twitter.
You can meet the Plaid Pelicans, and their sister team, rookie FIRST Tech Challenge team 14215, the Plaid Pirahanas (we’ll be featuring them later this week!) , at ROBOTICON Tampa Bay on September 29.
