Next up in our ROBOTICON 2018 Team Spotlight: FIRST Tech Challenge team 4997 Masquerade, of Middleton High School, right here in Tampa, FL. Coach David Rodriquez shares the team’s story.
Masquerade is one of four robotics team at Middleton High School in Tampa, FL. All three of the FIRST teams are registered to participate in ROBOTICON this year. Masquerade , one of two FIRST Tech Challenge teams at Middleton, is a diverse team formed in 2011 with a rich history of accomplishments including multiple FIRST Tech Championship appearances (2012 – 1st Place Alliance, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018). Masquerade has a strong competitive spirit but true to the spirit of FIRST, we are more than just robots.
Throughout the year, all team members participate in various outreach and sustainment fundraising events. At the Boy Scouts STEM fair, we engaged with various Boy Scout expressing the importance of a STEM education. The team also had the pleasure of interacting with Congressman Gus Bilirakis (at right). Outreach and fundraising events are organized and include all Middleton High School Robotics teams.
Masquerade revolves around the central theme of the masquerade. Our robot is painted in our team colors, black and gold, as is our equipment. Our logo, the Masq, is visible everywhere the team exists. Our enthusiasm and devotion to the Masquerade theme is what makes this team strong. At the South Super Regionals this year, the team stepped it up a notch and went formal in tuxedos. Masquerade is grateful for the opportunity to participate at ROBOTICON and we look forward to catching up with all our fellow Florida FIRST teams!!
