It’s time to meet RamTech! FIRST Robotics Competition team 59 is located in Miami, Florida at Miami Coral Park Senior High School, and is composed of engineering magnet students, mentors, alumni, and parents, and any student interested in exploring the STEM fields. Our mission is to encourage students to explore STEM fields in a graciously professional manner and create a beneficial impact on our members and community. Check out their story –
RamTech is set up so that throughout a student’s high school journey, their robotics experience builds up to reach FRC. We begin with introducing freshmen and sophomores to robotics through VEX Robotics as our “junior varsity” team. As they become upperclassmen, they join the “varsity” team of FIRST Robotics and begin to define their interests, whether electrical, mechanical, programming, graphic design, or even business and marketing. A bond is created among the members through the exhilarating experience of the competitions.
Furthermore, this has inspired more students to join our team, including an increase in females, who we encourage and empower throughout our program. RamTech has become a “home away from home” for most of our members, since they’re in a welcoming, fun, and encouraging environment where they can collaborate to achieve common goals. FIRST enables students to advance their own STEM learning, and over time, help others learn about STEM as well. RamTech has demonstrated this by implementing an organized system of students teaching students.
At RamTech, We also run a robotics summer camp and most of the STEM competitions in Miami-Dade County, including: Five “Ten80” Student Racing Challenge competitions, Six “VEX EDR” competitions, SECME Olympiad, and Miami-Dade County Youth Fair robotics competitions. Additionally, we help out at three “VEX IQ” competitions. These events and competitions expose K-8 kids to STEM at an early age. We believe these students will be the future of FIRST and furthermore, our society.
FIRST has been a vital contributor to our alumni’s future endeavors, as it has been a factor that stands out for our students on their college applications, scholarships, and resumes. It also prepares them with skills that are crucial to any engineering profession such as working in a team, utilizing effective communication skills, the ability to think under pressure, efficient problem solving, and time management.
We would like to thank Our Sponsor for supporting the development of our future: Motorola Solutions Foundation, FPL, Harris Corp., Suncoast Elevators, Beckman Coulter, Festo, RC Interiors, and Seaboard Marine.
Come cheer on our this great South Florida team at ROBOTICON Saturday and Sunday, October 12 & 13 at the Yuengling Center at USF!
