It’s time to meet FIRST Tech Challenge team 3846, Maelstrom!

Beginning our team’s 11th year, Maelstrom 3846 is a veteran FTC team based out of Middleton High School in Tampa. We are very proud to be a completely student-led team focusing on brainstorming and collaboration.

Year after year, our students develop entirely custom robots, differentiating us from many other teams. Maelstrom has a strong history of mentoring new members and cultivating leaders as well as building competitive robots. Whether it’s introducing robotics to new schools and students, mentoring other robotics teams, or making presentations to the community-at-large, our team members love to share their enthusiasm about robotics. Over the history of our team, we have been successful in overcoming challenges. Maelstrom prides itself in promoting an atmosphere of healthy competition while sustaining gracious professionalism. In our 2018-2019 season, we competed in one of our most exciting games yet, ROVER RUCKUS, where after the qualifying tournaments, we were led to the State Championship off of an Inspire Award. At last season’s state championship, Maelstrom held the 1st place position for the majority of the competition and proved to be one of the most competitive robots in the state of Florida. We are looking forward to meeting with teams from all over the state at ROBOTICON 2019!

We are immensely thankful to our sponsors TRU Simulation and Training, Suncoast Credit Union, BAMA (Bay Area Manufacturers Association), Jabil, Rockwell Collins, Lockheed Martin, JPMorgan Chase, DTCC (Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation) and Tampa Bay Steel Corporation for their continued support of our team. They help us in numerous ways each year – through generous sponsorship, encouragement, mentorship and even use of their facilities to ensure that we are able to effectively build our robot and prepare for competitions.

You can see Maelstrom in action at ROBOTICON Tampa Bay on Saturday October 12 !
