Meet FIRST Tech Challenge Team 7203 KNO3 from Plant High School in Tampa, FL.
“Our name, KNO3, stands for “potassium nitrate” a chemical compound found in fertilizers, tree stump removal, rocket propellants and fireworks.
Established in fall of 2013, our goal was to introduce STEM opportunities at Plant and provide a sustainable platform for students to learn lifelong skills of self-confidence, communications, and leadership. Our team consists of 9 members, 2 coaches, and a few mentors working out of a garage after school and on weekends.
All FIRST teams will be the first to tell you that “FIRST” is More Than Robots. FIRST stands for “For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology.” Teams not only get hands on experience building and designing a robot to compete in Local, State, Regional and World Competitions, but also learn real life experiences to broaden their leadership skills.
KNO3 spends time engaging with engineering firms in our community to learn about opportunities in a variety of fields; knowledge which will help students make choices as they pursue higher academic studies.
KNO3 has been fortunate to earn 19 awards in the past 4 years at the local, state, regional and world levels and attended the World Championships in Houston, TX for the past 2 years taking a 2nd place win in 2017.
Our experiences in the FIRST program have been amazing; cherishing the friendships we have made along the journey.
Special thank you to all of our sponsors for their generous support of our team: LGS Innovations, OWT Global, Draper, GHD, The PREP, AimPoint Golf, Rockwell Collins, Raytheon, Wanabe Outdoors, Aero Simulation, and Medtronic.
