It’s time to meet FIRST Robotics Competition Team 2152 S*M*A*S*H, of Volusia County! They’ve come to almost every ROBOTICON event and we’re glad to welcome them back again this year.
We are Team 2152 S*M*A*S*H! We are from Volusia County, FL and is the County’s only FIRST Robotics Competition team. We welcome all high school students from Volusia County to join our team. S*M*A*S*H has been around since 2007 which makes this year our 12th season. S*M*A*S*H has won the Engineering Inspiration Award at the South Florida Regional in 2017 and 2018. We also won the Innovation in Control Award at the Palmetto Regional in 2018.
Team 2152’s focus is to bring STEM education to every classroom in Volusia County. We have been working with our school
board STEM Specialist in create curriculum for all grade levels and to implement all levels of FIRST into the classroom. This past season S*M*A*S*H, Volusia County, and FIRST created a Total District Implementation Plan (TDI) which is our growth plan for FIRST in our county. Since the start of TDI we have assisted with the addition of 30 FIRST LEGO League Jr. teams and 13 FIRST LEGO League teams. We are the only team/county to have a TDI in the state of Florida and one of 10 TDI’s for all of FIRST.
S*M*A*S*H works out of Spruce Creek High School’s Academy of Information technology and Robotics (AITR). AITR was created by the head coach of S*M*A*S*H and uses the 6-week build season model for our challenge-based learning curriculum. AITR is a fully integrated academy which means all our core and technology classes are mixed. AITR allows team 2152 to meet and work during the school day as well as use what we do for grades.
Team 2152 S*M*A*S*H would like to give a big shout out to our sponsors for all the support they have given us: FORD Next Generation Learning (NGL), Rotomation, VMA, FORD Motor Company, Mullinax FORD, Lockheed Martin, Thomas & Betts, Gatorland, Fastenal, Hunter Foundation, Teledyne Oil & Gas, Florida Power & Light, Florida Hospital, Halifax Hospital, and AITR.
We would also like to give a shout out to all the parents and family members who have supported our team during the season.
Good luck to all the teams competing at Roboticon and Team 2152 can’t for DESTINATION: DEEP SPACE!
