FIRST Robotics Competition team 2383, The Ninjineers, of Plantation, Florida, has been attending ROBOTICON almost every year since our first event at the University of Tampa in 2013. Here’s their story, in their words and images – Meet The Ninjineers!
Team 2383, The Ninjineers , hails from Plantation, Florida and is comprised of 7-12th grade students from American Heritage School in Plantation. The team has been around since 2008 and is going into its 11th season participating in FIRST Robotic Competition this year. During the summer, The Ninjineers help to cultivate new generations of student engineers by hosting FIRST Robotics Competition themed robotics summer camp for ages 10-13 and an FIRST LEGO League themed summer camp for ages 7 – 9. In each of the three 3 week sessions, the older campers, being assisted by FIRST Robotics Competition team members (around two team members acting as counselors alongside four campers), build smaller versions of FIRST Robotics Competition robots with the same components, and compete amongst each other in games that are created by The Ninjineers, such as a mini Power-Up.
The younger campers, also assisted by FIRST Robotics Competition team members, build and program robots using LEGO Mindstorms to compete in
games. They start with one week of sumobots, continue with two weeks of an original game, created by the Ninjineers, and end week three with competition.
To spread the message of FIRST around their community during the school year , the Ninjineers mentor two FIRST LEGO League teams and host an annual FIRST LEGO League practice tournament as well as hosts numerous workshops, give robot demonstrations to the Cub Scouts, the Indian Community DIWALI Festival of Lights, the local elementary and middle school Halloween “Trunk or Treat” event, presentations at AHS Open House , the AHS College Fair, and participate in many more activities all in all to spread the message of FIRST and to give back to the community.
However, the Ninjineers wouldn’t be where they are today without their sponsors; American Heritage School , Boca Bearing , ProcessMap , Florida Power and Light , the State of Florida , and Motorola Solutions .
