Our ROBOTICON event partners bring everything from fiscal support to educational programming to our event each year. This year we’re excited to welcome STEMWERX to our Innovation Fair.

STEMWERX wind tunnel

STEMWERX is a mobile STEM lab conducting motorsports focused STEM enrichment activities at race events across the country. Their goal is to inspire students to choose careers in motorsports and become the next generation of motorsports innovators. They also connect students to internship opportunities and facilitate automotive problem challenges for students with the goal of creating a workforce that is better prepared for careers, not only in the automotive industry, but also in related fields such as aerospace and other manufacturing industries facing the same skills gaps. At ROBOTICON, STEMWERX will hosting wind tunnel data acquisition demonstrations,  where guests can test CO2 cars in a Jet Stream 500 wind tunnel to find the cars with the best aerodynamics along with discovering what feature contribute to the aero efficiency. We asked STEMWERX Technology and Education Director Beth Hanning to tell us a bit more about what they hope to accomplish at ROBOTICON 2018. “One of the goals of STEMWERX is to help companies find talented students to mentor and grow into potential employees. ROBOTICON is a great way to meet skilled youth who would like to apply for internships. “ROBOTICON is a great way for new FIRST® team members to get a taste of competition before experiencing the pressure of official tournaments. It also challenges returning students to continue striving for success after the season ends! My hope for youth is that they take a chance to meet teams from other regions and even other countries. These introductions can result in perspective changing opportunities.”

You can get up close and personal with the JetStream 500 at ROBOTICON Tampa Bay September 29.  Public tickets are free and can be secured at Eventbrite.
