This year we hope to feature as many of our great participating teams as possible, in our Team Spotlight feature. We’re kicking things off with FIRST LEGO League team 31128, the RoboNinjas!
FIRST LEGO League is an elementary and middle school STEM education program. Guided by two or more adult Coaches, FIRST LEGO League* teams (up to 10 members, grades 4-8**) research a real-world challenge – this year it’s a space themed challenge called “Into Orbit” – and develop their own solutions. They also must design, build, program a robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS®, then compete on a table-top playing field.
The games provide fun while students learn to apply science, technology, engineering, and math concepts (STEM), plus a big dose of imagination, to solve a problem. Along their journey, they develop critical thinking and team-building skills, basic STEM applications, and even presentation skills, as they must present their solutions with a dash of creativity to judges. They also practice the Program’s Core Values, which emphasize discovery, teamwork and good sportsmanship.
The RoboNinjas are a relatively new team, just starting their second season, and located in New Tampa.
We’ve asked each team to tell us something special they’d like to share about their team, and the RoboNinjas said, “We are best at collaborating and using each others’ skill to the teams advantage. We are also very hard working!”
