ROBOTICON Welcomes New Event Sponsor: World Robot Olympiad Association

wro-2We’re happy to welcome the World Robot Olympiad Association as a ROBOTICON sponsor this year.  WRO is the organizing body for several international robotics events, including Elementary, Jr. High, and High School events which use the LEGO Mindstorms robotics system, as well as a university level event.

In 2015, WRO sent seven teams to the World Championships in Qatar. This year’s World Championship starts on Nov 25th in New Delhi, India. The US will be well represented there as well. WRO invites youth and adults to explore the 2017 season for new challenges and opportunities on an international scale.

World Robot Olympiad organizes robotics competitions in five different competition categories:

  • The Regular category, a challenge based competition in which teams build robots that are designed to solve a given challenge set on a table.
  • The Open category, a theme based competition in which teams use their creativity and problem solving skills in constructing smart robotic solutions that complement the theme of the competition.
  • WRO GEN II Football wherein teams of two robots play a game of football (soccer) on a playing field.
  • To involve older students the Advanced Robotics Challenge (formerly University Regular Category) was added to the competitions in 2013.

And this year WRO introduces a Virtual Robotics challenge in which teams will use a virtual robot built in CAD software to solve a given challenge on a virtual table.  For more information, visit WRO-USA or contact outreach coordinator Alex Crooks, who you can meet at the WRO and Cogmation Virtual Robotics Toolkit tables at the ROBOTICON Innovation Fair.
