IMG_20160109_102636848For the 2016 FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) season, we held our Tampa area live FRC Kick Off event  for the FIRST Stronghold game reveal, at the new SOFWERX collaboration facility in Ybor City, on January 9.  Created as a partnership between the Doolittle Institute and SOCOM, the goal of SOFWERX is to spur collaboration and innovative problem solving – the perfect location to learn the new season challenge, and to learn about real world applications of the skills students will be exercising as they build a competition ready robot in six weeks!

And it was AWESOME!  Ten Tampa Bay teams came out to see the IMG_20160109_112832313FabLab and hear from great area engineering and tech leaders, include James Hondo Geurts, of SOCOM;   Robert Bishop, Dean of the College of Engineering at the University of South Florida and Beth Hanning, of the Doolittle Institute, who shared some best practices for everything from brainstorming to team work.

In addition to getting a great tour of SOFWERX and picking of their Kit of Parts, participating teams were also invited back for a pre-bag & tag robot inspection in February!
