Now it’s time to meet some of our VEX IQ and VEX Robotics Competition (VRC)  teams in advance of their ROBOTICON competitions on October 15 and 16. First up: VRC Team 32792B COGNEX from Winter Park High School in Winter Park, FL.  Here’s their story:

We are from Winter Park High School in Winter Park, Florida, and have three main members: Katie  (Notebooker), Davis (Builder and Coder) and Luke (Builder and Driver). Last year we won a World Design Award and many other regional and state awards, which was the first ever award at any level in our club’s 6-year history. This year we are looking forward to building on our success this season.

The B at the end of our name stands for Bananas (agreed upon at the Orlando International Airport when eating at the bananas smoothies & frozen yogurt restaurant.)

We like to give a huge shoutout to our current sponsors, Advanced Structural Design Inc and Tony Shahnami from SGM Engineering. If you want to help contribute to our success please,  visit schoolpay and select Winter Park High School, to then find robotics donations.

You can see COGNEX at the ROBOTICON Spin-Up Tournament on October 16th!

VEX Robotics Competition Spin Up is played on a 12’x12’ square field. Two (2) Alliances – one (1) “red” and one (1) “blue” – composed of two (2) Teams each, compete in matches consisting of a fifteen (15) second Autonomous Period, followed by a one minute and forty-five second (1:45) Driver Controlled Period.

The object of the game is to attain a higher score than the opposing Alliance by Scoring Discs in Goals, Owning Rollers, and Covering field tiles at the end of the Match.

There will also be an Innovation Fair at ROBOTICON for for all to enjoy and opportunities to learn how to get involved in or start teams in your school or community.  ROBOTICON Tampa Bay is free and open to the public, and can be enjoyed from 11am to 5pm each competition day.  Visit our event page to see the schedule for our Manufacturing Month event, which will feature different competitive robotics programs each weekend in October!
